8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.In this scripture we see Paul dealing with some form of affliction or issue. We do not know exactly what it is, all we know is that this issue that Paul was dealing with was an issue that he could not handle himself; an issue that he had to take to Jesus.
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
----2 Cor. 12: 8-9
The scripture says that Paul took this to Jesus three times. Now this messed me up because why did Jesus not heal him the first time. We know that nothing is too hard for Jesus; so why did Jesus choose not remove the affliction from Paul the first time. Then on top of that Paul came back a second time and once again Jesus chose not to deliver him. I can imagine by the time Paul was on his way back the third time he was a little frustrated, I can hear him now, "Jesus, what's really going on"(my own interpretation).
One thing the spirit gave me was that this was to show us the strength in faith that Paul had. No matter how many times he took this issue to Jesus and left still dealing with the same affliction he continued to trust in Jesus. This is where a lot of us have been guilty of swaying. After we take something to Jesus and he does not deliver us from it right away; some of us begin to lose faith and let frustration set in. We all need to take this lesson from Paul, to stay in faith and continue to bring and trust Jesus with our issues.
The other thing the spirit showed me is that no matter Paul was dealing with it could not destroy him. Jesus was showing Paul his glory in the midst of his affliction even when Paul did not realize it. The grace that Jesus gives is sufficient enough to sustain us in any situation. Any issue that may seem overwhelming; know that it is through the power of Jesus it cannot and will not overthrow us.
This is something that many of us can relate to. Having an issue or go through a trying period, we pray and take it to Jesus multiple times asking to be delivered from it. When it does not happen right away we begin to question our faith. Not even realizing the reason we are able to continually bring our issues to Jesus is because of his power and grace.
We need to have it rooted in us that Jesus’ grace is sufficient and his power makes perfect in weakness. Any situation that has not destroyed us means that His grace is still working. We have to encourage each other not to sway or forfeit the fight; we have to stay in the fight. We do this by continuing to come to Jesus, continuing to call on Jesus. Trusting the in God even when what is going on surpass our own understanding.
Be blessed and be ENCOURAGED!!
