“I created you, and I have created you with the power of choice and with the power of emotions. I could have easily created without either of the two and controlled you and made you follow me. I want you to choose to follow me. If you choose to follow me that mean you love me, if you choose to obey me it is because you love me.”
"God has already chosen us He wants us to choose Him."In addition to the questions of why God put the forbidden tree in Eden, there are arguments that this was entrapment. Entrapment because by God putting this tree in the garden and saying commanding them not to eat of it tree that He was tempting. Wrong, the scripture, James 1:13-14, teaches us that temptation can only enter in if we allow something other than the spirit of the God to trigger desire or a sense of pride within ourselves. Adam and Eve never had the desire to eat of the forbidden tree until the devil came into Eden. The devil begin to work on Eve began to break her down until eventually he got to Eve’s “natural reasoning.” The devil was all in Eve’s ear while Adam is off in the garden working (that’s another post all in its self, we’ll come back to that at a later time) telling her that “what God is telling you does not make sense, why can’t you eat of this tree but can eat of everything else in the garden but this tree, nothing bad is going to happen if you eat from this tree, God just don’t want you to be as powerful as him” [Paraphrase]. Eventually, that “natural reasoning” made its way back to Adam, and once Adam begin to listen to it, that’s when the devil knew he got them and Adam made a choice to go against the instruction of God. Let me say it again; Adam made a choice, he was not forced, he was not tricked, Adam made a choice. Understand the power of choice.
“Let no man when tempted say that he is tempted of God; God cannot be tempted neither tempteth any man. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” James 1:13-14The teaching behind the forbidden tree is still operating today. How we choose to think, speak and act both publicly and privately is our forbidden tree in this day. Will we choose to think the same as the world think? By going along with thinking that fornicating is okay, by thinking revenge is okay, or that poverty is just a way of life. No, we must choose to think God, “And not be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed, by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). Will we choose to speak the way of the world? By cussing each other out, degrading one another, backstabbing, gossiping, and saying what we cannot do. There is power in our words, the bible gives an option “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21) we must choose to speak life, speak good things and positivity. Speak, the Word of God which is the good word. Will we love or will we hate? We must choose to love; love is the key to God’s heart and fulfillment of His commandments’ Jesus said “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you” (John 15:12). Will how we act in public and in private reflect the world’s way of doing things? Will we choose to be abusive to our spouses; will fathers settle only for contributing child support check parenting? Will we be a beauty in the lights but a beast behind the scenes? The bible answers in Psalms 119:4-6_NIV: “You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands”.
No matter what is sat in front of us, we must not let “natural reasoning” tempt is into choosing a path that leads away from God’s will. We have to make a conscience decision to act, speak, and think God’s word. When temptation and that “natural reasoning” rise up, we must do as Jesus did and tell the devil. “Get thee behind me Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Make the choice; choose God, for He has already chosen us. In John 6:44 it says we cannot even come to God unless He chooses us first. Jesus says “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him…” In 1 Peter 2:9 it says we are a chosen generation: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people…”
God has already chosen us, the choice is left for us to choose Him. Make the choice!
