Society has taught us that efficiency will bring about success, however efficiency is an essential key it is only part of the equation. The other part of the equation has to be defined first: knowing the area in which God has created us to be effective in. For Mobile Viewing Click Here
The dictionary defines "effective" as: "producing a desired or intended result; fulfilling a specified function in fact". Effectiveness is the act of operating within our purpose and if we our not acting within our purpose our labor is in vain. We each have a role to play in God's master plan and we have to seek God first to make sure we are aligned with His plan. True success is accomplishing what God has created us for.
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose."-- (KJV) Romans 8:28
A balance of effectiveness and efficiency must exist in that order for success to manifest. Whatever we do must be done with and according to our purpose that God has designed for us. The ultimate purpose is God's purpose which is outlined in the Great Commission and the Great Commandment and we all have a position to play or responsibility. As we take on our tasks they must be done efficiently and in the spirit of excellence.
"Let all things be done decently and in order."-- (KJV) 1 Corinthians 14:40
It is essential that we know our purpose before we embark on our journey, if we travel without purpose our journey will be in vain. It is very much possible to be efficient in many areas without being a bit of effective. Many of us can testify to this, so much of time, money and energy spent trying to do the right things looking for success as a result of it. For example, we made all the effort to go to college and graduate, some with various degrees because that is the "right thing to do". We find honest ways to make a living, going to work making sure we punch in and out on time because it is the "right thing to do". We do our best to help out in whatever area is needed even at times when there will not be any compensation for our labor because it is the "right thing to do". Now, let's pause here because I want to make this very clear: these things mention are the right things to do. We have to be educated and it is a great thing to earn an honest income but the point is that it has to be a purpose at the foundation. Without purpose, if one is going to church just going because it is "the right thing to do" that person can go to church every Sunday and leave each Sunday still lacking. Even in going to church there must be a purpose. Even if that purpose is to go to church to seek God to reveal to us our purpose that He has for them; it is still a purpose which makes what they are doing effective.
Once we have established and defined our purpose now we can add efficiency, doing things the right way, to our equation of success. The bible tells us in Ephesians 4:1 that we are to walk worthy in the vocational that we were called. Meaning that we must do things appropriately and in a manner that reflects God. 1 Corinthians 14:40 describes the manner of which God operates: "Let all things be done decently and in order". The outcome of us operating in our purpose is to bear much fruit, to be productive in what we have been assigned to do. Please note that it is impossible to be productive according to the standards of God if things being done the wrong way, it must be done decently and in order.
I encourage those who are searching for success to first seek God to reveal the purpose that He has for their life. Once you receive the illumination of your calling your next step is then ask God to direct your path: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”--Psalm 119:105. To those who know their purpose, I encourage you to continue to seek God for direction and purpose. There is nothing wrong with getting a recharge! Never cease seeking God because it may be time to revamp the ways things are being done and find areas where improvements can be made.
After you have solidified the area you are called to be effective combine it with efficiency the result will be true success.
"Efficiency is doing things the right way; effectiveness is doing the right thing."-- Peter Drucker
