Character is defined as; moral or ethical quality, one such feature or trait, reputation and qualities of honesty, courage or the like; integrity, and a person especially one who is peculiar or eccentric. I believe your character is a reflection of what’s on the inside of you. Many of you may be thinking “on the inside of me“? When I say on the inside of you I mean “your spirit”. As believers in Christ we are to have a certain type of spirit inside of us.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT) says “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” These are great characteristics to have. No, it’s not always easy to be “loving, joyful or even patient “ however this is what God desires that we have living on the inside of us .Just like the saying “practice makes perfect”, we are to practice living the God kind of life every day. God’s light on the inside of us is a reflection of Him .Believe me, the world will know the difference. John 13:34-35 (TLB) says” And so I am giving a new commandment to you now—love each other just as much as I love you.  Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” When the world doesn’t see us reflecting the fruits of the Holy Spirit, then our character is questioned. If you have let the world know that you are indeed a follower of Christ, but they see that you are shady in your business deals, abusive to your spouse, have a bad attitude or are unfaithful in your marriage that leaves a bad taste in the mouths of those who look up to you, and your integrity is questioned. When they see you doing these things, you are sending mixed signals saying it’s ok to follow Christ and STILL do your own thing. Don’t get it twisted, it’s wrong to do any of those things however as believers the mission is to win others to Christ, and to walk in love. We can’t do that when our character is jacked up. Yes, people will judge and unfortunately it will be because of our skin color or even the clothes we wear, however let’s make sure our character is showing those Christ like fruits “From the Inside Out”!
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
