Did you know that you were already chosen by God? Sometimes we forget that very important detail in our lives but if we could ever hold grasp to that truth then our character will thank us for it. When you know that you have been handpicked by someone then you tend to want to make sure that you are on your best behavior."12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony." Colossians 3:12-14 (NLT)
When you are picked by your boss at work to head a project, then you go to great lengths to prove yourself worthy of the selection. We do the same in our local churches when we are leading a ministry or church event. We want them to know that they have the right person for the task at hand.
What if we felt the same way about God? There are so many instructions in the word of God on how we are suppose to behave as ambassadors for Him. Our character should imitate who He is. We often put on the mask of godly character for a weekly show and have rejected the fact that it is suppose to be our constant lifestyle.
Instead of casting judgments on each other we are suppose to make allowances for their faults. (Romans 3:23) God chose us to be a holy people but we have traded that in for a form of godliness that is going to make us miss heaven. We are to be merciful because God is full of mercy. Just look back over your life and think about all the mess you have been in and the mess that God has allowed to be hidden. That’s enough for anyone of us to say, “Hey, it’s going to be alright, get back up and let’s try this again because the God I know is a keeper!”
Instead of maintaining godly character we have become modern day Pharisees. Religious people whose hearts a far from God. We harbor unforgiveness towards one another which in turn blocks our blessings. Did you know that love covers our wrongs? If you don’t believe it, then what was Calvary for?Listen none of us are perfect but we should be allowing the Spirit to perfect us in all things. When we fall down, we don’t have to stay down. Maintaining godly character is a necessity if we profess to be a Christian. It’s not something we can have on Sunday and then lay down all the other days of the week. We must put those things behind us and press into God even more.
Your character can save someone. Your character can draw someone to Christ. There are eyes always watching us but what will they see? Ask yourself, “Does my character line up with Colossians 3:12-14?” If not, then today is a good day to start making changes. God is waiting on us to maintain a godly character for His glory! Will you answer yes to His calling or will He have to wait for another? The choice is yours...Father, please reveal every area in my character that needs to changed. Holy Spirit begin a new work in me now. I surrender at this very moment and profess that I want to maintain a godly character for Your glory! Holy Spirit breathe on me now. Holy Spirit fill me now. Holy Spirit reign in me now. Create in me a clean heart and renew the right Spirit within me. I praise You in advance Lord God for I am being transformed for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen!
