Matthew 6:31-33 KJV
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:31-33 teaches us that what we should do when distraction comes to attack our lives. It is interesting to note that the things are listed as distractions food, drink and clothes, things that are listed are the basic needs. Abraham Marslow in 1943 introduce the Marslow hierarchy and at the base of the pyramid are physiological needs in which food, water, and shelter from the elements. Marslow's psychological theory states this: "Physiological needs are the physical requirements for human survival. If these requirements are not met, the human body cannot function properly and will ultimately fail. Physiological needs are thought to be the most important; they should be met first."
So what this theory is showcasing is that the most important thing for us as humans consists of food, water, and shelter and if these are not secured then we as humans cannot function or be productive in life. But the truth of the matter is that we can depend on God for these things because we are His children and it comes by having faith in Him. Just as children depend on their natural parents to supply these needs through by faith. When a child cries out to their parent that they are hungry, cold, or thirsty they are operating in faith that they have good parents who are willing and able to provide those needs. That is how we need to trust God, having faith in God as his children that God can provide all that we need.
God looks for His children to depend on Him for these very needs but we must do it as children do.
Ever heard of the phrase "first natural then spiritual" in other words saying that in order to operate spiritually the natural things must be taken care of or focused on first. The scripture is telling us that by seeking God first He is going to provide.
The devil will send attacks against us in those physiological areas to get us distracted and plant fear in us. By distracting us and planting fear in us the enemy is attacking our faith in God and when our faith becomes shaky we begin looking for ways to stabilize it. Satan will send attacks against our finances, our homes, our health and other things to disrupt our peace and faith in God. We then turn our face to things of man and begin to trust in man. That is a sure way to fail. If this is your battle then I encourage you to stand strong in faith, put God first and allow God to be the awesome parent you could ever have. God is the best parent you can have and He takes care of His children making sure we have any and all that we may need.
